In 2024, Norway achieved a historic milestone in its seafood industry, exporting 1.26 million tonnes of salmon valued at NOK 122.9 billion (€10.9 billion). This represents a 2% increase in volume and a 1% rise in value compared to the previous year, setting a new record for the nation's most significant seafood export.
Salmon exports accounted for 70% of Norway's total seafood export value, which reached an unprecedented NOK 175.4 billion (€15.45 billion) in 2024 . Key markets driving this growth included Poland, the United States, and France, while Germany experienced the highest value growth with a 12% increase.
Notably, October 2024 marked the best single month ever for Norwegian seafood exports, with salmon exports alone worth NOK 12.5 billion, contributing 68% to the total seafood export value that month.
Despite challenges such as higher summer sea temperatures and increased production costs, the Norwegian salmon industry demonstrated resilience and adaptability, solidifying its position as a global leader in seafood exports.
